preparation: 
1) The mixture of Nd, Si, and Hg is heated in a quartz tube using an electric furnace at a temperature of approximately 450 ℃ for 10-12 hours, and excess mercury is distilled off using a bent tube. After the mercury is collected at the cold end of the tube, the product is annealed at 450-600 ℃ at the hot end of the tube. 
2) According to the stoichiometric relationship of the reaction, Nd2O3 and Si are weighed (continuously evacuated) and reacted in an alumina boat under vacuum conditions to rapidly and completely remove the SiO formed during the reaction. The reaction temperature is controlled between 1100 and 1600 ℃, and when it exceeds 1600 ℃, impurities are usually mixed in due to the participation of the container in the reaction. 
Application: 
(1) Neodymium silicide is an inorganic rare earth metal silicate mainly used in chemical research and production processes. 
(2) Neodymium silicon alloy also has excellent mechanical properties, such as high hardness, high strength, and good plasticity. These properties make neodymium silicon alloy one of the ideal materials for preparing high-purity metal sputtering coatings. 
(3) Neodymium silicon alloy has a high melting point, good electrical and thermal conductivity, and is therefore widely used in fields such as electronics, communications, aerospace, and automobiles.
