Japan's Materials Technology Research Institute has successfully completed the industrial process of the two-dimensional nanomaterial "MXene" and launched sample delivery. It is expected to be supplied to R&D manufacturers of next-generation battery and other product parts to accelerate the application of this material.


The "MXene", which is regarded as a "post graphene material", was published by Drexel University in 2011. It is a general term for composite atomic layer compounds composed of transition metals (titanium or vanadium) and light elements (carbon or nitrogen), and has a crystal structure similar to Graphene. It has the characteristics of high dielectric constant, high electromagnetic barrier characteristics, and high static capacitance, but no enterprise has yet achieved industrial grade supply, and only the academic community has taken the lead in research.


This Japanese material technology research successfully established the production method of 50g "MXene", using the representative Titanium carbide (Ti3C2), with an average particle size of 8.0 μ m. Purity above 90%. It is confirmed that Titanium carbide MXene has a high dielectric rate of 7000 S/cm equivalent to Graphene, and a high electrostatic capacity of 900 F/cm3 equivalent to ruthenium oxide, with an electromagnetic barrier characteristic of 50 dB in the 10 GHz band. Compared to graphite, it also exhibits high dispersibility towards water-based solvents, making it easier to apply in coating engineering and quite promising in practicality
